Advice on making mix-CDs/playlists

* Themed mixes are good, but don't force the theme. Not every song on the mix has to be about unrequited love or Antebellum-era Louisiana (just as examples).
* Find a rousing, relatively well-known song to start the mix.
* Maintain the tempo with the second song.
* Slow down the tempo after the initial few songs, then increase, then slow again in the final stretch of songs.
* Never include more than one song by the same artist. Side and solo projects are acceptable, however (eg: having both "Hey Jude" and "Band on the Run" is alright).
* Always include a song by one of the following in unthemed mixes: Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd or Elton John
* Have a good variety of songs the listeners will recognize mixed in with songs they may not know but would probably like.
* Don't be afraid to include multiple ballads, but do not go overboard with them.
* B-sides and covers are essential, but again, don't go overboard.
* Under no circumstances should you include "Don't Stop Believing." That song is awful.
